Spin-Offs

But the story of the Golden Girls does not end with the final season. If you can't get enough, the three spin-offs “The Golden Palace”, “Empty Nest” and “Nurses” offer further material to immerse yourself in the expanded series universe. Whether new locations, new faces or unusual constellations: The familiar Miami flair always resonates. For anyone who loves the wit and humor of Dorothy, Rose, Blanche & Sophia, these spin-offs are a must to learn more about the neighborhood, friends and even completely new adventures.

Adaptations

Adaptations

In addition to the official US seasons and their worldwide broadcast, several international versions of “The Golden Girls” have also been created over the years. For example, the UK's “Brighton Belles” and Spain's “Las chicas de oro” tried to transfer the successful recipe to their own countries. In Greece, Turkey and other countries, there have also been different approaches to putting the stories of four older ladies into a new cultural context.

There are also numerous other adaptations, ranging from pure theater adaptations to drag shows: Some productions stick closely to the original scripts, while others rely on parodies or musicals in which the dynamic between Dorothy, Rose, Blanche and Sophia is humorously reinterpreted.

Whether all adaptations were able to convey the charm of the original “The Golden Girls” is still a topic of discussion among fans today. Personally, I don't like such attempts and reinterpretations, but the fact is that the four ladies exert a worldwide fascination that repeatedly leads to new attempts to revive the recipe for success in a different form and language. If you are curious, you can find at least a few excerpts of these versions online to get your own impression.
